As most of you know John and I moved about 6 months ago. We are now in a great neighborhood. The neighborhood is quite elderly, our neighbors are in realm of 60-80 years of age.
This is a story of one of our first experiences meeting a neighbor.
One evening the four of us were out front picking plums from our ever delicious plum tree. As we are picking our delicious plums an elderly woman strolls past our home. Of course Ethan yells, "HELLO!" The woman stops, smiles and says, "Hello are you new to our neighborhood?" -Why Yes we are...we just moved in.
She says, "Welcome to the neighborhood these are great homes, I have been in my home for 45 years. They are built so nice. Where did you move from?"
-We moved from Missouri, my husband is in the Military.
Elderly woman says, "Oh, I was a Nurse in the Military during WWII." At this point she tells us her story of being in the military and the places where she was stationed . She also told us of the, "many, many young tushes that she has seen in her day giving shots!' We listen to her great story and then we say -It was great to meet you have a good night.
Not so bad, right?
Let me continue....with the rest of the story.
About a week later we are again picking fruit from our delicious tree and we see the elderly woman.
-Hello, how are you today?
She responds, "Hello are you new to our neighborhood?"
-Why Yes we are.
She then says, "Welcome to the neighborhood these are great homes.
Now at this point John and I Look at each other and smile. We are definantly having the same conversation that we had a week ago. The conversation goes on exactly as it had the first time!
-Oh we moved from Missouri, my husband is in the Military.
"I was a Nurse in the Military during WWII. I have seen many young tushes in my day!"
We are having the same conversation except she asks, "Are you children twins?"
-No they are not twins, but from a distance they sure do look like it."
Then again, she starts the conversation with, "Are you new to the neighborhood, I have been in my home for 45 years. They are built so nice. Where did you move from?"
During our many conversations with Verna, the elderly woman we discover that she has Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease.
For the past four months we have had this same conversation with Verna at least once every week. Nothing changes, everything is just like the first conversation.
Three weeks ago we are again outside raking up leaves. Verna is doing her loop around the neighborhood and we start the same conversation again.
"Hello are you new to our neighborhood?"
At this point Ethan pushes Eliza and they both are trying to hurt each other. I calm everyone down and walk back over to finish the conversation with Verna.
Verna asks, "Are those two children twins?"
-No they are not twins, but from a distance they sure do look like it."
Then Verna says, "Children are a lot of work and IF YOU EVER NEED A BABYSITTER JUST LET ME KNOW. I WOULD BE HAPPY TO WATCH THEM!"
I start to laugh because in my mind I can see what would happen if dear Verna were to watch our kids. "Hello there twins how are you today, wait a minute....how did you get here, where are your parents, did you know I have seen many tushes in my day, I have been in this home for.........."
Dear Verna, We sure do enjoy our chats with you! Thank You for the offer to watch our children, however we will have to ask for a rain check!

Wow, I just posted a comment when you posted this entry. Coincidence?
Hey, did I tell you that I just posted a comment when you posted this entry? I wonder if it was a coincidence?
You know what seems like a coincidence to me? When you posted this, I had just posted a comment!
that story is too funny! I don't want to age now though. Hopefully the conversation seems good to her.....everytime
I was going to say something funny but Tom already covered that. I check your blog all the time. When I want to keep my sanity I escape to the computer room and lock myself in. So I get a chance to check all my friends blogs. With Verna you should tell her new and interesting stories each time you meet.
That will be me in a few more years.
Love ya ... what was I doing??? OH! Emily, That will be me in a few years.
Love ya .... what
