Geocaching

For those unfamiliar with geocaching please click here

Ethan and I decided to try out a new feature on my iPhone 3G. Since this new iPhone has a GPS built in, it is possible to search for caches. So off we were to go find a hidden "micro" cache. I used my iPhone while Ethan backed me up with my trusty "got me from Kuwait to Baghdad" Garmin. The iPhone is extremely accurate and got us to our first cache!

For my little buddy Ethan it was a huge game of finding the buried treasure with Dad's cool toys!! He kept an eye on the arrow on the GPS and told me which way we needed to go! He's a great navigator!
Caches come in all different sizes, you notice the size of the one we found. That little bitty thimble is magnetic and it was hidden inside a pole for a parking space sign. We twisted off the top and inside is a tiny roll of paper where we put our initials and the day we found it! Pretty tricky huh? Oh, but so much fun!!

It's really fun to try to seek out all these different caches. To get to some caches you simply have to navigate to it. For others, you have to solve a riddle and still others are used to get the word out about social/contemporary issues. Go to http://www.geocaching.com/ and you will be surprised to find out how many caches are around you just waiting to be discovered!!

Go luck and good hunting!

Thank sounds like a lot of fun! I will have to look into that! Think there might be something here in Waynesville?

I love geocaching. Oh by the way I had this idea the other day of a fun geocaching scavenger hunt. Google Maps has streetview. And, I was thinking how it would be fun to get images of buildings and then see if other people could find those buildings based on the pictures. And also combining geocaching. Anywho it could be fun.
