It was a cold and dark night...

Well that's how it seemed when 13 years ago I showed up to West Point
and after many hours of walking in circles we marched out to take our
Cadet Oath. Yep, I had the same short haircut that these kids have.

Today was Reception Day (R-day), when the class of 2013 arrived to
begin training. We took the kids around to see the sights like
Constitution Island. As we met many parets they looked at our young
family and wondered who we were dropping off we joked that we were
there to see my brother off, haha. It was also cool to run into my
old 2nd Brigade commander, COL Perkins. He and his wife were dropping
off a son who just happened to have been born at West Point while COL
Perkins was a teacher here. He is now Major General on his way to Ft
Carson to assume command.

The day ended with the parade. It's fun that this morning Emily had
the thought that she was dropping the kids off for R-Day and for the
rest of the day she realized that doing so may not be as easy as she
hoped. It's great to see a new class entering the Academy. In just
four years these young men and women will be leading Soldiers on combat!

Go Army Beat Navy!!

It is amazing how fast those 13 years have passed. I hope the move in has been going well. Send out the new mailing address when you get it!
