I scream, You scream, We all scream for Cereal?

One more memory of Christmas and I promise you ..... no more!

As a little girl there were SO many people in our family 7 brothers, 2 sister and then of course myself = 10 children. As a child my Mom would not wrap our presents. I would like to think it was because she was eco-friendly and aware of all the tree's that would be cut down in trying to wrap a sea of endless presents with wrapping paper, but alas that is not so.

My dear Mother would put our presents in black garbage bags!

Personally, I never thought it was a big deal until my older siblings got married. I remember their Spouses telling us how weird that was for them. I guess it is a little ummm .... not typical, unordinary...maybe even weird, but that is how I grew up and I love it!

I mean lets think about it, my Mom was ever so practical. Christmas isn't about gifts and wrapping paper. It's about NOT letting the commercialism get to you. Not being exhausted and stressed out wishing Christmas would finally be over.

I think my Mom did it right, black garbage bags and all!

In our little family we are continuing the tradition of black garbage bags. Ethan and Eliza both got a black garbage bag and inside was sugar cereal. Some of you may be thinking...."What, sugar cereal?"

To keep the explanation simple: Growing up we NEVER had sugar cereal. We ate raw oatmeal, corn flakes (not frosted) and sometimes we had Cheerios. To spice up that mix my Dad would add raisins!

Christmas morning I would riffle through the black garbage bag and find my treasure of SUGAR CEREAL! The hardest part was trying to ration the cereal and hide it so my brothers wouldn't steal and eat it all! Who doesn't LOVE cereal, especially SUGAR cereal?

Hey Emily, Great post. I 100% understand the sugar cereal syndrome. My mom still gives niel and Jens some sort of coveted cereal for their birthdays. And while my mom did wrap the presents, I'm thinking a big black garbage bag would be more practical.

Trisha here: We wrapped up cereal in newspaper comics for Christmas and birthdays. Sometimes we'll still do that for our kids. Some favorites were froot-loops and frosted mini-wheats. Don't forget freezer meals-left you a message and an e-mail.

That's awesome! Last year we gave the kids all their own box of sugar cereal. I think we gave some of them cans of olives, too!

HAHAHA! I love how you carry on your traditions! When I was little my mom had a sugar cereal rule. We could have as many bowls of non-sugar cereal as we wanted, but we could only have one bowl of sugar cereal at each breakfast that consisted of cereal. The good times!

We definitely had the black plastic garbage sack Christmas's quite a few times too. I liked it. You never knew what you were going to pull out of the bag and it was a lot less cleanup!
