The Law of Consecration

Pardon me while I take the opportunity to editorialize and share a thought I received in institute class today. I have often struggled with the notion of how to be Christian and having a desire to live in Zion where there is no poor among them and the feeling of dissagrement with notion of wealth distibution. In this election time a big difference between the parties is the notion of
equality among the country versus capatalism. As we were reading Moses 7:18 I realized that socialism is common to Satan's plan in that it takes away our ability to live the law of consecration. If we take away people's ability to chose to give of their substance to the poor then they can not choose to be obidient, therefore there is a loss in agency. What if the Church automatically deducted an emplyee's tithing from their paycheck?

Ezra Taft Benson taught 3 differences between the Law of Cons. and communism
1. God made vs man made
2. Individual ownership of property
3. Agency

Thank you for the opportunity to share my thoughts and feelings. As we prepare for the election it is important that we choose the people and plicies that are most closely aligned with our individual houghts and beliefs.

President Benson gave an interesting talk in the '60s titled "Secret Combinations". It is definitely insightful and an interesting read, especially with the election season.

Thanks for sharing your insights. It gave me a new twist to think on. Isn't it amazing that even on things like elections we can find answers to our questions in the gospel....
